Distinguish description and direction
A passage may describe an action, express a feeling, make a promise, or give an instruction. These require different responses. An account of someone’s behavior does not automatically commend it, and a promise to a particular audience should not be detached from that setting.
Trust in the wilderness
Numbers follows a people being organized, tested, disciplined, and prepared to enter the land. Lists and journeys sit alongside stories of fear and rebellion. God's faithfulness does not make the community's choices inconsequential.
With Numbers 11–13 in view: What responsibility or response to uncertainty is visible here?
