Distinguish description and direction
A passage may describe an action, express a feeling, make a promise, or give an instruction. These require different responses. An account of someone’s behavior does not automatically commend it, and a promise to a particular audience should not be detached from that setting.
When faithfulness unravels
Judges portrays recurring oppression and deliverance alongside deepening moral disorder. Its leaders are often deeply flawed. The presence of an action in this narrative does not make it a model for Christian behavior.
With Judges 8–10 in view: What harm follows the choices made here, and how does the narrator help us see it?
