Distinguish description and direction
A passage may describe an action, express a feeling, make a promise, or give an instruction. These require different responses. An account of someone’s behavior does not automatically commend it, and a promise to a particular audience should not be detached from that setting.
Remembering a people's calling
Chronicles retells Israel's story with attention to ancestry, David, worship, and preparation for the temple. Genealogies connect later readers to a larger community. The book's perspective invites a people to remember their identity and responsibilities.
With 1 Chronicles 18–20 in view: What does the writer choose to remember about belonging, worship, or leadership?
