Distinguish description and direction
A passage may describe an action, express a feeling, make a promise, or give an instruction. These require different responses. An account of someone’s behavior does not automatically commend it, and a promise to a particular audience should not be detached from that setting.
Worship and renewal
Chronicles follows Judah's kings with particular attention to the temple, reform, and seeking God. Renewal involves more than restoring buildings. The closing movement through exile toward return leaves readers considering both failure and renewed possibility.
With 2 Chronicles 34–36 in view: What would genuine renewal require beyond an outward religious activity?
