Attend to repeated words
Repetition can draw attention to an important concern, but it is not a secret code. Notice a word, image, command, or action that recurs, and ask what it is doing in each setting. Let the surrounding sentences explain its force.
Judgment, comfort, and hope
Isaiah addresses Judah and the nations through warning, promises, visions, and comfort. Holiness is joined to justice, and hope reaches beyond immediate political arrangements. Distinguish the historical audience from later Christian readings of fulfillment.
