Distinguish description and direction
A passage may describe an action, express a feeling, make a promise, or give an instruction. These require different responses. An account of someone’s behavior does not automatically commend it, and a promise to a particular audience should not be detached from that setting.
Truth in a resisting community
Jeremiah confronts covenant unfaithfulness, false reassurance, and approaching catastrophe. Lament and promises of restoration appear within the warnings. The prophet's difficult calling shows the cost of truthfulness without making personal hostility proof of being right.
With Jeremiah 21–23 in view: What truth do people resist, and what response does the passage call for?
