Notice before applying
Begin by observing what the passage actually says. Name the main event, claim, or movement in each chapter. Keep your summary separate from the lesson you hope to draw from it; that pause can reveal details you would otherwise miss.
Giving grief a voice
Lamentations mourns Jerusalem's devastation through carefully shaped poetry. Its grief is communal and concrete. Expressions of hope do not erase loss, and the book should not be used to rush someone beyond honest mourning.
