Distinguish description and direction
A passage may describe an action, express a feeling, make a promise, or give an instruction. These require different responses. An account of someone’s behavior does not automatically commend it, and a promise to a particular audience should not be detached from that setting.
Faithfulness under empire
Daniel combines court narratives with symbolic visions about kingdoms and God's rule. Faithfulness is tested under imperial power. Its visions call for patient hope; they should not become a timetable based on confident guesses about current events.
