Distinguish description and direction
A passage may describe an action, express a feeling, make a promise, or give an instruction. These require different responses. An account of someone’s behavior does not automatically commend it, and a promise to a particular audience should not be detached from that setting.
Good news received and resisted
Luke gives sustained attention to prayer, welcome, mercy, and the response to Jesus. Meals and encounters often reveal assumptions about who belongs. Follow the journey toward Jerusalem rather than detaching each story from Jesus' mission.
With Luke 21–23 in view: Who receives welcome or a challenge, and what does their response reveal?
Reflect on today’s passage
Which part describes what happens, and which part explicitly teaches or calls for a response?
One response
Identify one claim you can support from the text and one assumption to hold cautiously.
Pray
Bring one observation, one question, and one need from today’s reading to God. Ask for understanding and wisdom to respond faithfully.
