Bring an honest response
Application should follow understanding. Return to a specific part of the reading and consider an appropriate response: gratitude, lament, confession, a question, or a practical act of love. You do not need to force every difficult passage into an immediate instruction for your circumstances.
Truth and love together
The letter connects confession of Jesus, obedience, love, and assurance. Its repeated themes develop together rather than functioning as isolated tests. Love becomes concrete in care for others and cannot be reduced to words alone.
With 1 John 1–3 in view: How are truth, love, and conduct connected in this part of the letter?
Reflect on today’s passage
What response follows from the passage rather than from an idea you brought to it?
One response
Choose one modest response and explain the part of the reading that prompted it.
Pray
Bring one observation, one question, and one need from today’s reading to God. Ask for understanding and wisdom to respond faithfully.
