CONSIDER THE PASSAGE

This chapter addresses a church learning how to live with its gifts and differences. Impressive speech, knowledge, and sacrifice do not substitute for love. Paul's descriptions move into conduct: patience, kindness, freedom from boasting, and delight in truth. Spiritual visibility can coexist with behavior that harms the very people our gifts are meant to serve.

Love is not a demand to ignore abuse or suppress truthful reporting. Its connection to truth matters. Nor can one person carry all the responsibility for a damaged relationship. Today, look at an interaction where you do have a choice. You might allow someone time to speak, acknowledge your part in a conflict, or stop using a favor as leverage. The aim is not to appear loving but to treat another person with truthful, patient care.

A question to carry with you
