Truth That Builds

Ephesians 4:25–322 minute reading
Ephesians 4:25–32

Paul describes practices of the new life: truthful speech, honest work, generosity, restrained anger, and forgiveness.

CONSIDER THE PASSAGE

Paul's instructions are rooted in belonging to one another. Lying damages that shared life; words can either meet a need or tear at the community. Even work is described with generosity in view. These practices are connected. The new life is not a collection of private achievements but a way of living that affects other people.

Speech that builds does not avoid every hard truth. Sometimes correction, a boundary, or a report of wrongdoing is necessary. The question is whether our words serve a real need or merely discharge our frustration. Notice one conversation where you have been tempted to exaggerate, gossip, or wound. A faithful response might be to speak accurately, remove an insult, or take the issue to someone equipped to help rather than spreading it further.
