Wisdom You Can Ask For

James 1:2–82 minute reading
James 1:2–8

James addresses trials, endurance, and asking a generous God for wisdom rather than living with divided allegiance.

Open passage and surrounding context
CONSIDER THE PASSAGE

James begins with trials rather than easy circumstances. His call to endurance does not make suffering pleasant or require denying its cost. Within that difficult setting, he invites a request for wisdom. We are not expected to discover the next faithful step entirely alone. God's generosity is central to the invitation.

The warning about double-mindedness should not be used to condemn every anxious thought or sincere question. It concerns dividedness in approaching God, and belongs to James' wider call for an integrated life. Asking for wisdom can include reading carefully, seeking counsel, and gathering practical information. Name the decision before you without demanding certainty about every outcome. A faithful next step may be clear even when the entire path is not.
