A little time with Scripture.

FAITH IN EVERYDAY LIFE

You want to make them hurt the way you hurt

THE SITUATION

Someone humiliates you publicly. You have private information that could damage them, and posting it feels like the only way to regain control.

DIRECT BIBLICAL TEACHING

What Scripture clearly teaches

Paul forbids private revenge and calls believers to answer evil with good while pursuing peace as far as it depends on them.

Christians are instructed to put away malicious speech and deal with anger without letting it govern sinful action.

What Scripture does not directly address

These passages do not prohibit every complaint, public correction, protective disclosure, or appeal to authority. The relevant question includes purpose, truth, necessity, and who needs to know.

Distinctions that matter

Seeking accountability differs from taking personal revenge.

Anger can signal a real wrong without making every response righteous.

Peace may be impossible to establish alone; Paul explicitly recognizes limits.

Questions of the heart

  1. Am I trying to protect someone or to inflict humiliation?
  2. What would I say if revenge were removed from my goal?
POSSIBLE CHRISTIAN APPLICATIONS

Possible faithful responses

  • Delay a public response until you can describe the facts without threats or exaggeration.
  • Use an appropriate complaint or reporting process when the wrong requires action.
  • If a direct conversation is safe and useful, name the harm and request a specific change.

Reflect

  1. Which response would protect dignity and address the actual wrong?
  2. What information is necessary to share, and with whom?
